Elbow Pops

From Firestaff Tutorials

A baton Twirling Move. Where the elbow is held out in front of your and the vertical staff is thrown and caught on it.

Sounds simple, well simple and painful. Learn to go with the staff before you catch it. Also what I found really helps is doing a sort of double throw with both parts of your arm. So the forearm and the upper-arm both give the staff some upward force. It's easier to control the throw this way and give it enough force and spin to be catchable again.
